Alton Natural Gas Storage LP (Alton) recognizes the rights of the Sipekne'katik and stakeholders to appeal the Government of Nova Scotia's decision to issue all remaining permits for its natural gas storage project.
Alton is respectful of Nova Scotia's regulatory and Aboriginal consultation processes. The company will continue to engage the Mi'kmaq of Nova Scotia and the community as it progresses the next phase of the project near Stewiacke.
The project has been designed to the highest levels of safety and environmental protection. This includes appropriate environmental and ecosystem measures to protect the Shubenacadie River, its fish and fish habitat.
The Alton Natural Gas Storage project creates significant benefits for the province including jobs, tax revenues, and community investment. It is also estimated that consumers of natural gas will save approximately $17 million per year in natural gas costs once the project is commissioned.
